7 Spiritual Awakening Stages
The spiritual awakening process is definitely complex, multi-layered, and different for everyone. In reality, it can not be fit into neat categories.
With that being said it is simply helpful to have a kind of “map” to locate where you are definitely at right now. The following stages are simply general. They define the overall flow of the spiritual awakening process:
Stage 1– Unhappiness, despondency, and feeling lost
In this stage, you experience the aforementioned Dark Night of the Soul. This is certainly a time of confusion, disconnection, alienation, depression, and great unhappiness with life. You are truly searching for something, but you don’t quite know what. There is generally a great looming emptiness inside of you. This stage either emerges spontaneously or due to a life crisis (e.g. breakup, divorce, death, trauma, illness, major life change).
Stage 2– Shifting perspectives
You create to perceive reality in a totally different way. In this stage, you kick off seeing through the lies and delusions propagated by society. You feel unhappy with life, disturbed by the suffering you see and hopeless to the ills of the world. You no longer see life as you once did in your previous state of complacent unawareness.
Stage 3– Seeking answers and meaning
There must be definitely a point to all this? In this stage, you are truly asking all the deep questions. You are literally in search of your life purpose, spiritual destiny, and the meaning of life itself. You will start off dabbling in different metaphysical, self-help, and esoteric fields in search for answers and truth.
Stage 4– Finding answers and experiencing breakthroughs
You will feel a sense of expansion as old patterns dissolve and your true self (soul) begins to emerge. You might perhaps have a number of mystical experiences or brief moments of satori (enlightenment) that give you a glimpse into the ultimate nature of reality.
Stage 5– Disillusionment and feeling lost again
Life is definitely about movement. With the spiritual awakening process, there is literally always an ebb and a flow. In this stage, you become bored and tired of your spiritual teachers or practices. You may perhaps become disillusioned by the faux spiritual BS out there and crave for something deeper. You can have even experienced long periods of connection with the Divine, only to become separated again (this is certainly normal). Understandably, you’ll feel disturbed and deeply upset by this experience. Additionally, while you can have experienced many mental/emotional/spiritual breakthroughs, they might feel superficial. You crave for authenticity and for deep spirituality that permeates your life and transforms every part of you. The unhappiness and stagnation you feel will motivate you to go in search for more.
Stage 6– Deeper interior work
In this stage, you are certainly not interested in dabbling in feel-good spiritual philosophies or surface practices anymore. The abiding pain you feel inside motivates you to do deep personal work. You may likely become a serious student of meditation, mindfulness, ritual, inward child work, shadow work, body work or various other transpersonal philosophies.
Stage 7– Integration, expansion, joy
Integration means taking the spiritual lessons you’ve learned from your personal work and applying them to your daily life. Integration happens both naturally and consciously as a habit in deep spiritual practice. In this stage, you’ll experience the most profound and long-lasting changes deep within. Many people experience prolonged mystical experiences and periods of unity with the Divine in the integration phase. Remember that enlightenment, or full self-realization, is generally never guaranteed: we can strive for it, but it is actually ultimately a gift from Life. Profound peace, love, and joy emerge and are usually felt in this stage. You might just feel ready to be undoubtedly a spiritual mentor or role model in your community and pass on your insight to others. Life will become less about you and more about We. Your perspective will expand and you will get going seeing things from the big picture. Above all else, you will feel connected, at peace with yourself, and deeply aligned with life.
Note: it is certainly common to move back and forth between these spiritual awakening stages. Remember that this is normally not a linear process– you can not just move from A to B to C. This is without a doubt a complex and messy path, so it is without a doubt perfectly fine if it doesn’t look like what I’ve described. Your spiritual awakening process is certainly unique to you. I do hope this analysis has helped (in some way) you to ‘gain your bearings.’
What Happens to my If I Become Spiritually Awake
The true spiritual path is actually an ego peeler, and peeling away all these delusions and issues brings you closer to spiritual truth– truth such as you are usually here and now. Unlike other spiritual paths, true spirituality is without a doubt often very mundane. It isn’t heavily decorated, and it isn’t complicated. It is definitely simple, direct, and clear.
So whenever your spiritual practices or beliefs get too complicated and especially if you think they’ll keep you safe, then this is normally a good time to get out your ego peeler. Beginning running your awareness around the edges of your beliefs to find a way in and pull away another layer of ego. Each time you drop a layer of ego, the more conscious you become about who you are actually and what life really is usually. In so doing, you find more space, openness, love, kindness, service, clarity, and much more within you. That is definitely the beauty of the ego peeler. When we no longer seek the external world and spiritual paths to give us safety, we find that all the things we truly wanted were simply already within us.

Moving Past the Initial Shock of Awakening
Awakening can feel like a dam has burst. Many people feel deluged under a whole variety of thoughts, emotions, and sensations.
That said, a lot of initial inward work seems to get done for us. It is without a doubt almost like the Divine is generally showing us how internal work should go. As such, surrender is truly another one of our first lessons to help move past the shock of awakened energy. Choosing and actively engaging with ego issues is undoubtedly vital to doing internal work, but initially, surrender must come.
When you surrender to the river, you let it pull in the direction it wants to go. As you feel how it is definitely moving you, you also swim.
10 Negative Symptoms Of Spiritual Awakening
1. Sudden waves of emotion.
Feeling suddenly angry or sad with little provocation. There is normally often a pressure or sense of emotions congested in the heart chakra (the middle of the chest). This is normally not to be usually confused with the heart, which is truly located to the left of the heart chakra.
Guidance on how to deal:
Go directly to your heart chakra and feel the emotion. Just feel the feeling and let it evaporate on its own.
2. Food intolerances, allergies you never had before.
As you grow more spiritual, you are really more sensitive to everything around you. Some people find they often have a white residue in their mouth, much like that of runners at the end of a race.
My personal experience: I suddenly had severe excema on my hands and feet. I discovered it was due to gluten intolerance. I can also no longer enjoy a lot of acidic foods- my stomach aches after red-sauce laden meals.
Advice on how to deal:
Take yourself to a naturopath. Look at your diet for known allergens, like dairy, gluten, and nuts. Consider a restrictive diet for a few weeks, and slowly add back foods, one at a time to see if you can target what is really causing your issues.
3. Amplification of the senses.
Sight: Blurry vision, shimmering objects, seeing glittery particles, auras around people, plants, animals, and objects. Some report seeing formerly opaque objects as transparent.
Hearing: hearing white noise in the head, beeps, tones, music or electronic patterns. Some hear water rushing, bees buzzing, whooshing, roaring or ringing. Some hear strange voices in their dreams, as if someone is certainly hovering near them
Enhanced senses of smell, touch, and/or taste: I have a friend that can smell and taste chemical additives in some foods in a rather unpleasant manner. Some mystics have reported smelling the fragrance of flowers now and then (this sounds rather enjoyable).
Tips and advice on how to deal:.
Surrender to it. Let it come through. Listen. Be certainly patient. Whatever you do, do not be truly afraid. Hazy vision maybe relieved by yawning.
4. Vivid dreams.
In some cases the dreams are literally so real that you wake up confused. You might probably even have lucid dreams in which you are truly in control. Many dreams might probably be literally mystical or carry messages for you. And in some dreams, you just know that you are not “dreaming” … that what is simply happening is simply somehow real.
Good advice: You will remember what is literally important for you to remember. Don’t force anything. Above all, stay out of fear.
5. Events that completely alter your life:
Death, divorce, change in job status, loss of home, illness, and/or other catastrophes … at times several at once! Forces that cause you to slow down, simplify, change, re-examine who you are without a doubt and what your life means to you. Forces that you can not ignore. Forces that cause you release your attachments. Forces that awaken your sense of love and compassion for all.
6. Introspection, solitude and loss of interest in more extroverted activities:.
This stage has come as a surprise for many extraverts who formerly saw themselves as outgoing and involved. They say, “I don’t know why, but I don’t like to go out as much as before.”.
7. A sense of something “Impending”.
There is definitely a feeling that something is without a doubt about to happen. This can create anxiety.
Strategies: There is really nothing to worry about. Things are normally definitely happening, but anxiety only creates more problems for you. All your thoughts “” positive or negative”” are prayers. There is usually nothing to fear.
8. Electrical and mechanical malfunctions:.
When you are simply around, lightbulbs flicker, the computer locks up, or the radio goes haywire.
Hints and tips: Call on your angels, and guides to fix it or put up a field of protection of light around the machine. Surround your car with blue light. Laugh.
This occurs when you are actually ungrounded. Perhaps you have just cleared a big emotional issue and your body is actually adjusting to your “lighter” state.
Often “comfort food” feels. Use your guidance to know what you need at any given moment.
10. Memories Resurface.
Body memories, suppressed memories, images of past lives and/or parallel lives. We are generally healing and integrating all our “selves”, so expect to have some of these experiences.
Hints and tips:. Keep in mind that it is literally best to recall what only what comes to mind, leave the rest alone, don’t analyze every thing to death (because you will be normally stuck in the tape loop of infinite issues to process), and feel your feelings as they come up.
